Fire Safety Code Changes coming soon in British Columbia

In British Columbia the provincial government has proposed significant changes to legislation by introducing the Fire Safety Act. This new Act, which received Royal Assent on May 19, 2017, reminds building owners of their responsibility to ensure their buildings are meeting an acceptable level of fire safety code compliance. Municipalities will be mandated to implement a compliance monitoring system.

Municipalities have been mandated to implement a compliance monitoring system.

While it’s up to each municipal jurisdiction to implement a compliance monitoring system, most will accomplish this by allowing trained building owners or managers to perform a fire safety self-assessment on their low risk, low hazard properties. This easy to follow Building Safety Fire Prevention Training program provides this education for self-assessment.
