Blue Card Command Certification Program
At the recent FCABC Trade Show and Conference Global Risk Innovations and FireWise Consulting Ltd. introduced the Blue Card Command Certification Program. Blue Card provides standard curriculum for Incident Commanders of NIMS Type 4 & 5 incidents. The program satisfies the IFSAC accredited Hazard Zone Management standard.
In December of 2010 Glen Sanders of FireWise Consulting became a Certified Instructor/Evaluator for the Blue Card Incident Command System at the Clay Fire Territory training centre in South Bend, Indiana. This certification enables Glen to evaluate your incident commanders before they are tested in a real life situation.
The Blue Card Command Certification Program allows fire ground commanders to be trained and certified in the "8 Functions of Command" utilizing simulated fires in a variety of building types and sizes. The system to evaluate the effectiveness and ability of an incident commander uses simulators, radio and other communication tools and incident worksheets or, in some cases, computer aided command software in a real-life, stressful situation without risking personal safety. The simulations and evaluation give incident commanders the opportunity to become comfortable in their Naturalistic Decision-making capabilities and provide a uniform and consistent platform for all fire ground personnel.
The Blue Card Command System integrates your SOP/SOGs – it does not change them. Blue Card Command focuses on the "8 Functions of Command" and is a very cost-effective way to standardize incident operation across your fire department. The training starts with a 50 hour on-line course that costs $385 per student. Fire personnel learn at their own pace using text, simulations, video coaching, quizzes and practice radio reports.
